The NC Discovery Course is designed for students who are ready to blend adventure, academics, and personal growth in an unforgettable summer experience. Set in the mountains of Western North Carolina, this program combines the best of SOARâs outdoor expeditions with engaging, hands-on learning. Students enjoy everything from caving, biking the Virginia Creeper Trail, and rafting to science field trips at Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute and the Hands-On Science Center. Along the way, theyâll conquer ropes courses, climbing walls, and overnight expeditions that build independence and teamwork.
Academics and study skills are woven into the adventure in creative and supportive ways. Over the course of the program, students participate in structured study periods, offering tutoring, enrichment, and skill-building in areas like reading, writing, journaling, and study strategies.
