Ages 11 to 18, 12 Days
This highlight of this 12-day adventure is the canoe expedition on Fontana Lake in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. But first, campers will develop communication and test their limits on day 2, as they participate in the high ropes course at Balsam Base. They then turn to preparing for their great canoe adventure- meal planning, trip planning, and learning how to organize and pack their gear. Then it’s off for a 4-day, 3-night adventure paddling along mountains and hardwood forests. Campers will learn the value of teamwork as they paddle from campsite to campsite, and will reflect on their day each night as they camp on the sandy beaches under the stars.
The team then departs for Pisgah National Forest where their next campsite will serve as the staging ground for rock climbing and an elective day. Rock climbing will provide campers the opportunity to push past their perceived limits and learn problem solving and goal setting strategies. The elective day options include: Mountain Biking, Paintball, Primitive Skills, and Fishing. Their teamwork and paddling skills will again be tested as campers navigate down the exciting rapids of the Nantahala River. This Class 2 and 3 river is perfect for beginners and experienced paddlers alike, and provides a great opportunity for communication and fun! The journey concludes with an end of course celebration at Balsam Base where campers will reflect on their achievements and newfound friendships.
