NC Backpacking

Ages 11 – 18, 12 Days

Cost: $3,300

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis 12-day adventure provides campers with a wide variety of activities, including the High Ropes course  and a rewarding 4-day, 3-night backcountry experience in Pisgah National Forest. Although backpacking is one of the more strenuous activities we offer, it is also one of the most rewarding! Campers will prepare for their backpacking adventure by route planning, meal planning & preparation, and will learn the importance of organization and carrying just the essentials! After full days of hiking, campers will experience the exhilaration that comes from working hard, “unplugging” and tuning into nature and all its wonder. Each night campers will reflect over a campfire on the challenges and successes they experienced that day.

Campers will then use their newfound wilderness skills during the next part of the course which includes rock climbing and an elective day where they may choose between the following activities: Mountain Biking, Paintball, Primitive Skills, and Fishing. These activities are designed to increase the confidence & self-esteem of our campers while providing opportunities to develop friendships and to work together as a team.

The journey concludes as the group puts their teamwork to the test with a thrilling whitewater rafting trip down the Nantahala River! The final night includes an end of course celebration at our Balsam Base, where campers will reflect on their newfound skills, new friendships and experiences they’ll remember for a lifetime!

My Camp Experience

"I am grateful that SOAR provides a supportive environment for Ben, where his learning issues and fears won't make him feel different. The SOAR environment also offers him a chance to be a leader and help others."
