SOAR: A Journey to Success
It’s difficult to find the right structure for children and young adults living with learning disabilities and ADHD in traditional classrooms and camps.
Oftentimes, students face so many challenges in the classroom that they actually start to believe some of the myths associated with having a learning disability. At SOAR, we know these stigmas couldn’t be further from the truth.
For nearly 45 years, SOAR has provided an alternative learning environment for students at every stage of their lives—from summer camp to an accredited boarding school, to the GAP Year program for young adults.
How does SOAR do this?
With the goal of success in mind, our outdoor adventure programs provide challenges that build self-esteem, self-assurance, and self-reliance. our hands-on approach to learning utilizes a variety of activities such as backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, and zip-lining to push participants beyond their comfort zone. This allows them to develop confidence and life skills with the support and encouragement from our highly trained staff.
These adventures empower our students to make healthy choices, learn more about themselves, overcome challenges, and relate lessons learned from these experiences to other aspects of their lives.
SOAR provides a community where young adults are celebrated for their gifts, where they come to make friends, and where they have the freedom to be themselves.
Everything we do at SOAR is based upon helping students experience success and we provide students with the tools and strategies to continue building upon that success.
