The Academy at SOAR began as a semester program in 1988, where students spent almost the entire time touring the Desert Southwest. We expanded the semester program to the Appalachian Trail semester in 1993.

Academy at SOAR Admissions

The Academy at SOAR is an ADHD boarding school for youth in grades 7 through 12 diagnosed with ADHD / ADD or other learning disabilities (LD) who will benefit from a program that provides experiential education, differentiated instruction, and independent living instruction. As an ADHD boarding school, we are not a clinical treatment or therapeutic program and do not serve students with severe behavioral management issues or substance abuse/dependence. Application Process:

The goal of the admissions process is to have an accurate assessment of each student’s strengths and challenges to ensure SOAR’s ability to meet their individual needs. The Academy at SOAR requires an application including a detailed list of other relevant information.

  1. Call us at (828) 456-3435.
    We look forward to learning about your child and helping you determine if we are the right fit for you and your family. Designed as a full year program, students are strongly encouraged to enroll in a full academic year.  The Academy at SOAR has a rolling admissions policy, so as long as we have the space, we are able to accept new students.
  2. Complete and Submit an Application
    Along with your application, we require a $100 non-refundable application fee.
  3. Interview with the Program Director
    Once we receive your application, we will contact you to schedule a time to conduct an interview with the Program Director if you have not done so already.
  4. Additionally you will be required to submit:
  • Most Recent Academic Records
  • Individualized Education Program (if applicable)
  • Most Recent Assessment (including psychological evaluation if available)

Upon acceptance, you will be provided with the next steps, which include submitting required forms, preparing travel arrangements and packing gear.

TUITION

Tuition for the 2017-2018 school year is $54,000*.

This includes:

  • Room & Board
  • Academic Expenses
  • Program Costs (Expedition expenses, life skills instruction)
  • Overhead

*Parents who pay in full prior September 7th will be receive a $1,000 discount. 

*There is a $100 application fee. The application fee is non-refundable and is not applied toward tuition.

*A $2,000 deposit is due upon acceptance to secure enrollment. This deposit is applied to the total tuition amount.
