Academy Academics

ADHD School

The Academy at SOAR is an ADHD school that also serves students with other learning disabilities through adventure-based learning. We recognize that each student has unique abilities, experiences, needs and individual learning style. Providing each student with differentiated instruction allows us to customize the learning environment and deliver academic instruction in a way that meets the individual needs and abilities of each student. For example, if your child is an auditory learner, information will be presented verbally, whereas visual learners are provided with primarily written components.

Many students have experienced difficulty in a traditional academic setting, stemming from a variety of factors including but not limited to, ADHD / ADD, other Learning Disabilities, negative feedback from peers or teachers, inability to self-advocate, peer influences, and poor academic performance. We seek to modify the student’s perception of him or herself as a student through differentiated instruction, allowing them to become aware of their unique strengths, abilities, and challenges, along with techniques to overcome academic hurdles.

LD Boarding School Students on Expedition

The Academy at SOAR is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Upon completion, your child will receive a high school diploma. Should your child complete one or multiple semesters, they will receive full academic credit for the courses they complete. Prior to attending the Academy at SOAR, we will carefully examine your child’s academic progress with you and his or her educators to determine the appropriate course load for each student based on their academic needs.

The Academy Experience

“Our 12 year-old son has participated in 3 different SOAR summer camps over the years and is currently attending the SOAR Academy school year. Not only is he always excited to return to any program given by SOAR, but his progress on all fronts has been amazing (as observed by family, friends and therapists). Most importantly, his own observations about his life skills and social abilities have given him self-esteem and independence that give him a new and unprecedented HOPE FOR THE FUTURE! He has learned to see things from multiple perspectives, not just his own -- which is of course one of the key social skills he needed to learn! Through the physical and psychological challenges of the SOAR program, our son has learned to advocate for his needs and work through challenges with people other than his parents. Our son has always been completely safe and we have fully trusted the highly trained staff, who are supportive but do not coddle our kids as parents are sometimes apt to do.”
