Alaska, Maine, Jamaica, and the Canadian Rockies are just a few of the locations previously explored by SOAR campers. Where would you like to see SOAR go?

The Academy at SOAR is an accredited boarding school in North Carolina nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Spread across 15 acres, our Balsam Base boasts a state of the art high ropes course, rock climbing wall, activity field, covered dining hall, bathhouse, conference room, cabins and administrative buildings.

Achiever’s Hall:

Located at the center of our academic campus, Achiever’s Hall acts as our school house. Once a private home, this building still retains the warmth and nurturing environment while providing a positive learning environment. On the main floor, the fireside classroom, technology lab and chemistry lab are used by students. The lower level has the school gym and our academic offices for administrators. When weather permits students are often found relaxing on the deck between classes or during breaks.

Founder’s Hall:

Donated to the Academy at SOAR by SOAR Founders, Jonathan and Wandajean Jones, Founders’ Hall is used as the school’s student center. This residential facility provides students a space to cook meals and do homework when not in school.

Student Cabins:

The student dormitories are divided by group and gender. These fully electric and insulated cabins provide the sleeping quarters for students while on campus. Students will sleep in bunk beds. Belongings are kept in foot lockers so that their campus supplies can be stowed securely when on expedition.
